Virtually all heatless twin tower heatless air dryers are designed for maximum water load, air flow and summer temperatures. Based on these parameters purge air flow rates are determined. The flow of the purge is traditionally though as fixed orifice.  On many  occasions these dryers are over purged thus wasting vast  amounts of expensive compressed air and imposing unnecessary  dryer component wear. The Artic Delta 3VND monitors & controls the dryer based on exiting compressed air dew point. It will extend the change over timing cycles reducing the air purge wastage and reducing wear rates on components.

Optional  Extras :

  • Pressure transducers, with additional pressure transducers before & after filter housings or a dryer, a differential pressure reading can be obtained. When differential reading exceeds a set point (adjustable)  an alarm will be generated. Should a system pressure drop below a set value (adjustable) the dryer can switch over to a bypass mode to avoid “sticky” bobbins and unnecessary air losses. Block and bypass valves not  included
  • Compressed air mass flow probes for system monitoring,  this includes the pipeline velocity readings.
  • Off-site monitoring of the system or dryer through RS485 or GPRS including the software is possible.
  • SMS Alerts function  if alarms are triggered is available.
  • Local Alarm Module Buzzer and Flashing Light is available
  • Oil carry-over test station. This is for clients that demand oil carry-over tests at regular intervals. The test station links to the Artic Delta for fast oil carry-over results.

The Jemaco SPX  Z series compressed air dryers are designed for plant and instrument air applications where very  low dew points are required with zero purge air wastage, incorporating cutting edge technology  & high performance in adsorption air drying these units are designed for continuous duty in large manufacturing plants.  Capacities range from 42 to 198 m3/min at pressure form 4 bar to  10  bar

Using the heat of compression principle, the dryer uses the hot oil free air direct from the compressor discharge to  regenerate the off line tower. So eliminating the need for expensive compressed air purge losses.  The dryer operates on a standard 8 hour fully automatic NEMA cycle. During this continuous process, one tower is drying the compressed air for 4 hours. During the same time period the other tower is being reactivated with hot compressed air.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The Z series dryer also has an optional energy management control system that senses the dew point of the compressed  air as it exits the tower. Dew point sensors can  extend the drying cycle dependent on the air flow loading on the dryer

Membrane dryers from SPX offer a solution to  users who require low dew point air at  point of use. These dryers can operate without electrical  power and offer exceptional operating reliability for the small to medium air user that requires dew point suppression without the use of electrical power.

The dryer only has no moving parts other than the drains on the pre filter pack. These membrane dryers do not affect the oxygen content of the dried air.  Purge air may be vented to atmosphere with no treatment  being required. Membrane dryers make use of some of the incoming air flow as purge air.  When used in conjunction with a refrigeration dryer low dew points can be achieved for a variety of applications.   The quantity of the  purge air required depends on;

  • The desired pressure dew point suppression.
  • The inlet  air temperature.
  • The inlet  air pressure.

 

The SPX DMD & DMM series membrane dryers may be fitted with an optional purge control valve that connects to a compressor’s on/off control system or a pressure switch to stop the purge in a “no flow” condition. This prevents compressed air wastage.

How It Works

1. Oil, liquid and water particles are removed from inlet air by a pre-filter & filtered air passes through the lower shuttle vale into the on-stream vessel.

2. The wet air flows upward through the desiccant bed, which becomes dry air. Dry air @ -40ºC PDP (standard) or –73.3ºC PDP (optional) exists through upper shuttle valve and splits into process air & low flow purge air.

3. Purge air flows into top of regenerating vessel and dry purge air flows downward through vessel removing moisture from saturated vessel.

How It Works

The exhaust purge air dryer is similar to the heatless air dryer in that there is a purge loss however, because the purge air and desiccant is heated we can reduce the purge air flow to 7% of the dryers flow rate. By reducing the purge loss by half, we greatly reduce the operating cost of the air dryer.

Wet air enters the dryer and is diverted into the drying vessel where it is dried to – 40 ºC dewpoint, some 7% of this dried air is diverted into the regenerating vessel (de-sorption process) where it is heated and expanded to almost atmospheric pressure. This hot air comes into equilibrium with the desiccant and strips off the moisture thereby regenerating the back to full capacity.

The wet air is then exhausted to atmosphere. The desiccant is heated for +/- 3 hrs within a 4 hr cycle, to fully regenerate it. The heater is turned off for the last hour prior to vessel changer over, to allow the desiccant to cool down. The desiccant is not effective if its temperature is above 60 ºc so the bed is cooled down with cool dry compressed air at very close to atmospheric pressure. This minimizes the potential of dewpoint spikes (bumps) when the vessels change over at the end of a cycle

How It Works

Compressed air enters the drier and is directed to left vessel by valve and then to the drier outlet through shuttle valve. A portion of the dried air is throttled to near atmospheric pressure by means of orifice. The extremely dry, low pressure air flows through and regenerates the desiccant in right vessel and is exhausted through purge/repressurization valve and exhaust muffler to atmosphere. After a set time, the automatic solid state timer closes purge/repressurization valve allowing right vessel to repressurize slowly. At the end of 3 minutes (when operating on a 6 minute cycle). Valve shifts and purge/repressurization valve re-opens. The main airflow is now dried by right vessel while left vessel is being regenerated.
