Allowing pollutants down a drain is no longer legal nor is it environmentally acceptable. ISO ratings can be lost if improper dumping is detected. Bulk oily liquid containment is messy, wastes space and increases operational costs, as waste disposal fees are expensive per litre of waste water handled.
Artic Driers range of oily waste water separators make the handling of oily waste water from compressed systems, dryers and filter’s simple clean and easy. The legislation makes the CEO personally financially liable for fines if pollutants are allowed into storm water drains or a natural water course. This potential pollution includes oily water from a compressed air system. One litre of oil can contaminate thousands of litres of water within a wetland.
Aftercoolers, refrigeration air dryers and filters condense hundreds of litres of oily waste water a month while drying compressed air to a state fit for a modern production facility. Until recently there were limited ways to dispose of the waste, these were;
- Allow it down a storm water drain and face the hefty fines, or
- Containment in a bulk container for disposal by an authorised waste disposal company, this proves to be very costly and often messy
The oil content within these condensates is low in comparison, the water volumes by extracting the oils and leaving clean water behind a significant reduction the volume of the waste to be handled is achieved. Bags are easily and quickly disposed of legally by certified waste disposal company.
The new patented “Sterling” adsorption media used in Artic’s waste water management system is a major development on older systems. The new Sterling media can accept up to 50% higher flow rates and handle short contact times with ease.
Sterling is highly effective at removing Poly Glycol and synthetics and stable emulsions from the waste water stream. In addition the media is 70% lighter making change outs less physically demanding. The stability of the Sterling media makes selection easier as it works within a wide temperature range.
These new pallet sized packs can handle 200 m³/min compressor sets and provide an easy, user friendly solution to waste water management.
The bodies of the smaller separator, models 120 to 1800, are manufactured from recycled polypropylene even further reducing the impact to the environment. With guarantees offered on all units sold, clients can buy with confidence, states Allen Cockfield of Artic Driers International.
